| Stephen Jones, Ph.D | |
A better fit of teacher and campus could hardly be desired. Between his previous teaching position at Waterford High School and Avery Point, Dr. Jones spent four years as a lighthouse keeper. The sea continues to surround him in his publishing, his teaching and his community service. He teaches Avery Point's popular Literature of the Sea course, part of the Coastal Studies Program of which he is a founding member. Besides Dr. Jones's work on campus, including several faculty searches, he has served on the town of Groton Shellfish Commission and many other local organizations. As well as bringing a "face to UConn" through his talks with various local groups, he has published fiction, non-fiction, crticial studies, and articles for journals and magazines. Dr. Jones's teaching provides his students with learning and connection to the larger world around them and exemplifies his dedication to demonstrating that education is a process of total personal enrichment.
