Dr. Barreca recieved her B.A from Dartmouth College, her M.A from New Hall, Cambridge University and her Ph.D. from City University of New York.

Dr. Barreca's ability to elicit enthusiastic and dedicated writing from her students stems from her pedagogical style that combines wit, energy, and erudition with an ability to make students active participants in the classroom. The dedication that she brings to the classroom encourages students to dedicate themselves to their own work. Dr. Barreca works closely with graduate students and introduces them to professional academic life outside of the classroom. Her publication record speaks to her wide range of interests and array of talents. As well as authoring numerous books and editing collections, Dr. Barreca maintains a public presence and frequently presents academic work in popular venues. She is instrumental in spreading the word about UConn's dedication to education to a wide audience. Her most recent work, Too Much of a Good Thing is Wonderful, was released in Spring 2000.
