John Ayers, Ph.D


Associate Professor, Electrical & Systems Engr.


Dr. Ayers recieved his B.S from the University of Maine, and his M.S and Ph.D from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He joined the faculty at the University of Connecticut in 1990.

Dr. Ayers brings to the classroom patience, dedication, and enhusiasm. He is renown for providing students with copious and thorough notes, not only supplementing but often surpassing the information offered by the students' textbook-- an effort which the students greatly appreciate. In his classroom, Dr. Ayers encourages active classroom participation, stressing teamwork and problem-solving, and welcomes questions and suggestions. His implementation of selections from the laboratory into the multimedia classroom allows students to observe the applications of theory in practice as they will later do in the workplace. Dr. Ayers has authored or co-authored many scientific papers, presented at numerous conferences, and was named an IBM fellow for 1988-1990. He is also a member of several profession societies, such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), where he is a student advisor. Dr. Ayers broad area of research is the growth and characterization of semiconductor materials and devices.
