Jean Givens, Ph.D


Associate Professor, Art and Art History


Dr. Givens recieved her B.A., M.A. and Ph.D from the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Givens joined the faculty at the University of Connecticut in 1987.

Dr.Givens teaches on both the undergraduate and graduate level. She has a reputation of being demanding, fair and utterly devoted to the welfare of her students. As well as her high quality instruction, Dr. Givens has made significant contributions to new teaching methodologies, specifically her own research engaging issues related to technology and transfer of visual information. Through her teaching, guest lectures, and publications, she allows both scholars and students from multiple disciplines to engage in discussions about Medieval Art. Dr. Givens recently completed a book entitled Observation and Image-Making in Gothic Art (Cambridge University Press, 2005) with the support of a grant from the UConn Chancellor's Research Foundation.
