James O'Neil, Ph.D


Professor, Family Studies and Ed. Psychology


Dr. O'Neil recieved his B.A from LeMoyne College and both his M.S and Ph.D from the University of Maryland. Dr. O'Neil joined the faculty at the University of Connecticut in 1982.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. O'Neil has taught numerous courses, and advised undergraduate and graduate students in both the School of Family Studies, and in the Department of Education Psychology. His superb teaching reflects his focus on experiental learning, and creating a suitable learning environment that incorporates both his pedagogical approaches, as well as student culture. Dr. O'Neil is an active mentor and has shared his concepts both locally and nationally. He has also served on numerous national committees and has published extensively. Dr. O'Neil's professional interests are men's and women's gender role conflicts and transitions, violence and victimization, therapy with men and women, mental health and organizational consultation, career development, men's issues, the effects of sexism and other forms of oppressions in people's lives.
