What is CPS? |
Classroom Performance Systems or “clickers” are the technology that allows instructors to poll students during class. Students register their responses using a TV remote type device giving the instructor real time feedback that may also be shared with the class as a histogram.
|
Background
|
Since there are many competing classroom clicker systems available the University conducted a research and testing program to choose a single vendor for CPS. It was important to us that clicker use be driven by pedagogical need, not by textbook vendors. A key criterion for selection was that students be able to purchase only one clicker for all classes. Excellent vendor support was critical.

| Vendor |
The vendor, eInstruction, was chosen because of the high quality of their technology, tech support and their experience. The Institute for Teaching & Learning (ITL) has installed the CPS software on all Storrs classroom computers and works closely with UConn faculty and eInstruction to support it. The CPS software works smoothly with PowerPoint or can stand on its own and is supported on PC and Mac. Class rosters can be downloaded from HuskyCT into CPS. |
| Costs |
$24 for students to purchase their CPS clicker at the UConn Co-op Bookstore
$13 activation fee paid by students per course OR
$39 “lifetime” activation fee paid by students for their UConn career
$0 for faculty to receive a starter kit (order information) |
