Adjunct Faculty Associates Program
Purpose
The Institute’s Adjunct Faculty Associates program has a number of objectives.
- To provide a faculty development program for suitable adjunct faculty candidates from the regional campuses
- To help to develop strong pedagogies appropriate to the adjunct faculty’s discipline
- To expose each adjunct faculty member to a range of technological opportunities for course and curriculum enhancement
- To encourage the creation of innovative or creative course materials
- To provide a comprehensive introduction to the facilities and personnel of the Institute
- To encourage the Faculty Associate to share gained expertise and ideas with the regional campus faculty and administration on a continuing basis
Process and commitment
Selected adjunct faculty will spend about one day a week for two semesters at the Storrs campus, collaborating with the Institute’s staff in a meaningful personal development experience and the expectation of the creation of innovative courseware. This could involve any or all of the following.
- Course or instructional module development under the guidance of the members of the Instructional Design & Development unit
- Technology experience gained through activities in the Instructional Resource Center
- Building specific expertise in, for example, WebCT (Vista), E-portfolios, General Education computer competencies, PowerPoint, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver
- Instruction, development, and practice in the use of video distance learning course delivery
- Construction of a Teaching Portfolio
- Attendance at the seminars and workshops delivered by the Institute throughout the semester
Funding
The Institute will provide a stipend of the equivalence of teaching a regular adjunct course to cover each individual’s involvement.
